About me

" We tend to say that folk art and folk traditions must be nurtured, but what does that really mean? I would suggest amending this statement by saying that folk are and folk traditions must be learned, and they will nurture us in return."
/Bertalan Andrásfalvy/

Dear Visitor,
Welcome to my website!

Mesterségek Ünnepe 2015

A few words about me ...

I am a teacher of crafts and a playhouse teacher. I work with floral plaiting materials, mainly with straw, husks, willow but I make experiments with rush, sedge, bulrush and other natural plaiting materials.

I got my qualification at The School of Crafts and Arts in Budapest:
I got my BA in 2004 as an educational expert and as a folk playhouse teacher,
in 2005 as a plaiter and maker of wicker furnitures,
and in 2006 as a teacher of folk games and crafts.

I have learned the spinning of decorative glass in Tiszaalpár that is similar to basketwork, but it is still very special because of the softness of the material. My instructor was Mrs. Éva Jánosné Kálmán, a folk artist, who was very patient and attentive with me during the training. She encouraged me to present my works at competitions. I got my folk artist title in 2008, all of my juried products (45 pieces of ‘A’ and 3 pieces of ‘B’ category) can be viewed at Pávavédjegy.hu.

I use the same technique with bigger bottles as at the case of the spinning of decorative glass. I make much more detailed demijohns than the traditional ones, they are decorated with patterns but at the same time their functions are unchanged.
In 2015 at the XI. Live Folk Exhibition I competed with demijohns with different size and shape but the same pattern. I got the highest professional reward for this, the Pomegranate prize. From all of my rewards this is the one I am the proudest of.

I participate at professional exhibitions, bigger craftsman fairs and on emphasized events. As a member of the Duna-Tisza Folk Art Organization I take part at the Feast of the Crafts at Buda Castle yearly. I exhibit regularly at the “Garabó" Festival in Kecskemét.

I have been exhibiting abroad too, such as Magyarkanizsa, Zenta and Felsőhegy. In Italy I was a guest of honor at the Medieval Festival in Feltre which is the sister city of my hometown and residency.
In Munkeboe, Germany at the Hungarian Week event I was present as an exhibitor and as a debut craftsman. My braided products are present all over the world. They got presented at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, last summer in China at the Song Qingling Palace in Beijing at the „Heritage and Innovation” exhibition during the Hungarian Cultural Weeks and at the Ningbo Expo.

You can follow me on Facebook. I use my professional site as a business card, besides the pictures of the current completed products – if I have time – I demonstrate the procedure too.
